Visually, photographer Jenavieve Belair's work, takes you on a journey of emotions. Scrubbing through her photos conjures up a badass and adventurous spirit and the desire to be free. She has a truly unique style of photography.
During our time together, Jenavieve talked about where it all started, back when she received her first camera, at the age of 14, as a gift from her dad. And we followed her journey up until the present day, discussing her approach to photoshoots these days with well known brands like, Raen, Brixton and Free People. And of course, we covered the mega babes that appear so often throughout her work.
A true artist with immense talent, Jenavieve also embodies a completely unique personal style. Built around random finds, each piece in her wardrobe has a legitimate story behind it - from thrifted shirts to hats found at obscure shops on road trips.
The stories she shared with me about discovering pieces which end up as permanent fixtures in her closet gave me a sense that she knows her true self and clearly gravitates toward whatever speaks to her. And her sense of self and passion for discovery are two features clearly reflected in her work.
"MY MAIN GOAL IS TO HAVE IT NOT BE LIKE A PHOTOSHOOT. I'VE ALWAYS SAID THAT I WANTED IT TO BE LIKE A NORMAL DAY HANGING OUT WITH FRIENDS. SO WHAT'S NORMALLY HAPPENING IS THAT WE'RE ON AN ADVENTURE."
"I THINK AS LONG AS YOU STAY TRUE TO BEING YOURSELF AND STAY ON THE RAOD THAT YOU WANT TO BE ON AND YOU'RE A GOOD PERSON AND KEEP WORKING, THEN I NATURALLY THINK THAT WHAT YOU WANT TO HAPPEN WILL HAPPEN ON IT'S OWN."
