JESSE GENET - LOS ANGELES, CA

In one of my most in depth interviews yet, I sat down with the multi-faceted Jesse Genet in her Downtown LA loft and spoke with her about everything from fashion and creativity to building her business and gaining visibility on Kickstarter.

Jesse's company Lumi sells a product line based around colorful translucent dyes that are used to print on fabric and cure in sunlight. It was amazing to hear her talk about her journey from discovering the inkodye technology as a teenager, to later purchasing the rights to the technology and starting Lumi along with partner Stephan Angoulvant.

I first stumbled upon her product a couple years ago online. After buying a small starter kit from her site, I used the dye to make a little stencil printed shirt for myself. It was such a fun and different design experience for me. From then on I took a much closer look at Lumi and how they were growing their business and product line and luckily was able to link up with Jesse herself.

Both Jesse's positive energy and her laugh are super contagious. I liked seeing up close how she was constantly full of creative ideas while also balancing the interests of her business. The passion and time she pours into Lumi is emphasized by the fact that her downtown LA loft houses both her home and office all in one incredibly styled space. Hope you guys enjoy watching this one half as much as I enjoyed filming it.

"You'd be surprised - at the end of a frustrating day it can seem like nothing happened, but things are actually happening really rapidly when you're pushing."

"I definitely see us fulfilling our vision that printing fabric at home should be easy and affordable and totally accessible to people whether they consider themselves DIY or not."
